Questions & Answers

Q. The decision is under review. When will the decision be made?
A.. The Home Office has given a number of deadlines for the decision since the proposal came to light. The latest information from the Home Office (as of late Feb 2002) is that it will still be a number of weeks before any kind of announcement is made, and that a decision is still a long way off.

Q. If the proposal goes ahead, when will the clinic move to Silverlands?
A. This will depend on a number of factors. The Home Office will need to complete the refurbishment, and we understand that the Home Office will seek planning permission/listed building consent. This means it could be some months between any decision and the opening..

Q. What can I do to help?
A. Write to Beverley Hughes with your objections and/or specific questions. Click here for further information.

Talk to your friends and neighbours about the proposal.
Come along to the candlelit vigil on Fridays between 5.30pm and 7pm at Silverlands.

Tel: 07960 828113
Address: Silverlands Action Campaign, Moorewell House, Lyne Lane, Chertsey, Surrey, KT16 0AJ

Q. Where are the possible alternative sites?
A.. The Home Office has not released any details on alternative sites, but we believe they are looking at other sites. They are not willing to give any further details at this stage (Feb 2002).

Q. Is building work continuing at the Silverlands site?
A. Yes. Despite the fact that the Home Office say their plans are under review and they have not yet got planning permission, work is continuing with the £2 million refurbishment of Silverlands. Council inspections have taken place to ensure the work is restricted to remedial work to the fabric of the building.

Q. Why was the planning application for Silverlands withdrawn in November?
A. We have not been given any reason for this, but believe it was withdrawn to avoid its rejection by the Planning Committee. We don't know whether a revised planning application will be submitted.

Q. Will I receive a reply if I write to the Home Office?
A. Some people have received letters of acknowledgement. If you don't get a response, take it up with the Home Office.

Let us know if you get a reply to particular questions you have raised.

Q. Can Lyne & Longross school be seen from the Silverlands site or building?
A. We are not sure but believe not.

Q. Can children from nearby schools be heard at the Silverlands site?
A. Yes. This is disputed by the Home Office however!

Q. Is Silverlands Action Campaign associated with a political group?
A. No. We are a community group with no party political affiliations.
