Runnymede Borough Council Full Council meeting - Thursday 25th October 2001 Runnymede Borough Council discussed the proposals and passed the following resolution by a unanimous vote: 'This Council expresses its deep concern at the way the Home Office has
progressed the proposed move of the Wolvercote Clinic for sex offenders
from Epsom to Silverlands, Chertsey without local consultation and makes
representation to the Home Secretary to withdraw the proposal having regard All members of the Planning Committee who were present on the night withdrew from the chamber for this item so that they could not be deemed to have supported the motion prior to the planning application coming before them. Although this has since been withdrawn, it is expected to be re-submitted. As a result of the motion, the Council has sent a letter to the Home Office expressing the view that is outlined above. We understand that the Council has also indicated that it reserves the right to apply for a judicial review should the Home Office continue to press for the Silverlands location. The council has a responsibility to act on the planning and listed building issues. They have committed to taking action against the unauthorised work which has already taken place. We will be watching developments! |
