Dear
Ms Hughes,
I
am appalled to hear of your proposals for the proposed use of Silverlands as a
residential centre for convicted paedophiles and strongly object to this.
I
understand the Home Office proposes to move the Wolvercote Clinic for sex
offenders from Epsom to Silverlands, Chertsey without any local consultation.
This directly contravenes Government policy that communities and individuals
have a right to be consulted when decisions are being considered which affect
them. This is a totally unacceptable
way for our Government to operate.
Because of the close proximity of this proposed unit and the impossibility of guaranteeing permanent security, there is a risk to the children in this community, to the children of several local schools, nurseries, crèches, children at St Peter’s Hospital and the very vulnerable children in the White Lodge Centre. I am also concerned with its close proximity to Thorpe Park. I understand that the Silverlands building is surrounded by woodland, which is easily accessible from the site, and this seems totally ludicrous to place a unit for paedophiles at this location.
I
strongly urge you to immediately withdraw your plans and would expect that any
future action in connection with this proposal will be conducted openly in line
with Government policy.
Yours
sincerely,
