Silverlands
Action CampaignNewsletter 2 9 November 2001
Planning application for Silverlands site
withdrawn by the Health Secretary Alan Milburn on 6.11.01 prior to going to the
Planning Committee on the 07.11.01. The
Planning application was flawed and therefore withdrawn to avoid its rejection
by the Planning Committee. We expect a revised planning application to be
submitted within the next couple of weeks.
But
Work Continues !
Despite the fact that the Home Office say their plans are under review and they have not yet got planning permission, work is continuing with the £2 million refurbishment of Silverlands.
The good news is a local heating installer has
turned down a lucrative contract at the site.
Major
Event – Deputation to Tony Blair & Vigil
We need every child
in the area to produce a drawing of what they enjoy doing outdoors. These drawings will then be taken to Downing
St. so that we can impress on Mr Blair that family life will never be the same
if a paedophile unit is located in our or any other residential area.
The pictures with the
children’s first name and age should be sent to the contact address below,
other collection/delivery arrangements will be communicated in next weeks news
letter.
We intend to support
this on the day with your help in putting on a mass candle lit vigil in the
local area to attract the TV companies and the press. This is provisionally
scheduled for 30 November. Full details will be communicated in next week’s
newsletter. Watch this space!
Candle Lit Vigils Every Friday night 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Please support
if you can
even if just for 15 mins. On 02 November more than
200 people turned out again during the course of
the evening.

Keep Writing Please keep writing to Beverley Hughes MP at House of Commons, Westminster, London, SW1A 0AA, copied to Phillip Hammond MP at the same address. Letters asking specific questions about what other sites are being considered, what the review process and timescales are, asking for more information on absconders and the number of voluntary patients that have curtailed their treatment will mean that she has to respond to your letter.
Legal Action – Fundraising
We now need to explore what Legal avenues there are that would help our
cause. This will be very costly, we
therefore now need to raise substantial funds to support this and other
campaign activity. Please send any
donations / contributions for our fighting fund payable to Silverlands Action
Campaign at the contact address.
